Welcome back! I hope you all had a restful and happy Easter break and enjoyed some of the nice weather we had!

Reading: This week I’d like you to spend some time revising the word list I uploaded before the break. I’ll upload it again below.a I would like everyone to be confident with this word list before I introduce the new reader next Monday. For anyone that knows all the words on the word list and would like to keep up with their reading between stories I mentioned that there are excellent stories on Starfall (https://www.starfall.com/h/ltr-classic/) which the children will be able to read using their knowledge of phonics. Collins Connect (https://connect.collins.co.uk/school/Portal.aspx) has a great range of levelled readers from junior infants-2nd class. Oxford Owl is another great website which I haven’t mentioned before. It has a range of levelled Oxford readers for children learning to read. You need to sign up and create a free Oxford Owl at Home account but once you do you’ll have access to all their ebooks. I’d recommend when choosing a book to choose the ‘lilac band’ or ‘oxford level 1’, the books can be labelled differently. I’ll leave a link direct to the page which has a choice of 10 books which I’d recommend you to start with. (https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/?view=default&query=&type=book&age_group=Age+3-4&level=book+band%3A+lilac&level_select=&book_type=&series=#) If anyone is finding it difficult to find suitable reading material for their child please email me on the email below and I will get back to you with some suggestions.

Writing: For your writing today you can write about your Easter holidays for me. If you can print the page attached then you can draw some nice pictures into each box. If you don’t have access to a printer an adult can write out your news and you can copy it into your copybook. You can use the sentences on the ‘My Easter Holidays’ document to help you brainstorm and write your news…

  • Where did you go?
  • Who did you see?
  • What did you play?
  • What did you eat?
  • How did you have fun?
  • Tell me about the last day.

3-4 sentences is plenty, but if you’d like to write more then feel free! You can draw a picture at the top half of the page for me when you’ve finished your writing.

Maths: Here is a nice game for you to practice your counting. Be careful as it gets more difficult as you complete each level! https://www.abcya.com/games/counting_fish

Aistear: I’m sure you are all missing doing Aistear in school. You can make your own Aistear/role play corner space at home using teddies, puppets, dolls. You can involve any siblings in this too. Try to engage in 30 minutes of imaginative or role play every day.

I loved seeing some of your work before the Easter holidays. Please continue to send on photos of your work each day. Also, if there are any questions/issues I can help you with please don’t hesitate to get in contact stcolumji@gmail.com
