Please continue with your word list from yesterday. You should aim to learn approx. 3 new words a day. Make sure that you check back and revise the words from the previous days also. For anyone that needs extra reading material Starfall is a brilliant website and the children will be able to read stories 1-5 as it just uses their knowledge of phonics. The books are interactive and the children really enjoy reading these stories. https://www.starfall.com/h/ltr-classic/ Zac the Rat, Peg the Hen, The Big Hit, Mox’s Shop, Gus the Duck are the five stories you can click into. Feel free to work past these five if you like but some of the children might find the vocab after story 5 a little challenging. They will need to be introduced to the concept of ‘magic e’ (when e is at the end of the word it makes the other vowel in the word say its name e.g. Jake, tale, wave, safe etc.) after story 5.
This week we will be learning the ‘x’ sound. X makes the sound /ks/. Brainstorm with an adult all the ‘x’ words you can think of. X is a tricky sound to brainstorm so it is actually better to write words with x at the end of them (e.g. ox, box, fox, six, mix, fix, wax, Max) rather than words with x at the beginning of them. We hear the ‘x’ sound better when it comes at the end of a word. For today’s writing activity you could write a short list of x words in your copybook and draw some ‘x’ pictures. Log onto FolensOnline. Search ‘Sounds Make Words’ in the search tab at the top of the page. Click on ‘Sounds Make Words Junior Infants 42 Sounds Resources’. Click on the tab ‘sound’. Click on ‘x’. Click ‘open’ on the ‘x portfolio’. Click into the four different categories: sound introduction, letter formation, word practice, rhyme. Finish off by watching the ‘x’ episode of alphablocks which I’ll attach at the bottom of the page.
