I hope everybody had a lovely weekend!

Reading: Today we are going to make a start on our new reader- Let’s Make Pancakes. Log into FolensOnline and search starlight junior infants. Click on resources. Click on unit. Click on 13. Pizza and Pancakes. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Core Reader 3- Let’s Make Pancakes. Click on open. Firstly, click on ‘new words flashcards’. These will revise your word list that you have been practicing recently. Click on the story ‘Let’s Make Pancakes’. Look at the front cover. Discuss the following questions:

  • Can you make a prediction about what you think the story might be about?
  • This book is a recipe. Do you know what a recipe is?
  • Look at the picture on the title page. What do you think the girl is going to make?
  • Where in the house might you make pancakes?

Press play and listen to story from start to finish. After listening to the story discuss the following questions:

  • What things do you need to make pancakes?
  • What might the girl put on her pancakes?
  • What do you like to put on your pancakes?

Play the story from the beginning a second time. This time try to follow along and join in with the reader with some of the words that you know. Afterwards, I’d like you to read the first two pages (pg. 3 & 4) of your reader independently to mum or dad. If you are finding the words difficult go back to the word list and spend some more time learning them. You need to be reading the word list fluently before attempting the story.

Open page 17 of your Starlight Workbook.

  • Colour the sight words one and with.
  • Find and circle the words one and with.
  • Read the three sentences and find and circle the words one and with.
  • Trace the words one and with.

Writing: Today for your writing could you write your news for me please. What did you do at the weekend? Where did you go? Who did you go with? What did you see?  About 3-4 sentences. E.g. Today is Monday. It is cold outside. The sun was shining on Saturday. I played in the back garden. Ask somebody to write the news first for you on a piece of paper and you can copy it into your copybook afterwards. Draw a nice picture at the top half of the page to illustrate.

Maths: Today we are going to learn about the number 5. Watch this short Sesame Street video first to introduce you to the topic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HP9l__A8QI

I’d like you to do page 81 of your Planet Maths workbook. You need to trace all the number 5s. Before you do this please watch the video below about how to write the number 5.
