Yesterday Junior Infants received a work pack so that they can continue their learning at home during the forthcoming school closure. The work pack includes a variety of handwriting, phonics and maths. I have included a copybook also for handwriting practice. Children can read the sentences in their copy (these have been taken from previous class readers) and copy the writing on the lines underneath. The reader On The Farm & The Duck Pond is also in your child’s work pack. Children should be confident reading On the Farm as we’ve been practicing it a lot lately in school. Please introduce your child to the new word wall for The Duck Pond. Children won’t be familiar with these words so aim to introduce around 3 words a day. The first 4 words on the list (go, see, look, of) are dolch words and will need to be learnt off by heart. However, for the remainder of the word list encourage them to use their knowledge of phonics when sounding out words.
There is plenty of work and suggestions included in the work pack to keep your child busy and engaged in their learning for the coming weeks. I will update the class blog regularly with links and activities to relevant online learning material.
